Jamie Phillip Mongoo: Man pleads guilty after ‘whispering to, touching’ girl, 8, during Geraldton break-in

A Geraldton home invader who touched an eight-year-old girl and whispered to her during a terrifying and bizarre break-in earlier this year has pleaded guilty.

Jamie Phillip Mongoo appeared via video link in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to common assault, home burglary and trespass in relation to the home burglary in the Geraldton suburb of Strathalbyn.

The 33-year-old also pleaded guilty to 15 counts of fraud, two counts of stealing and trespass, one count of home burglary and possession of stolen property in relation to separate incidents.

Mongoo did not enter pleas for three of the 27 charges before the court including an aggravated home burglary in Spalding, stealing and a home burglary in Waggrakine.

Details of the shocking and bizarre intrusion were previously revealed in court after Mongoo’s arrest in June.

Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said Mongoo entered the Strathalbyn home between midnight and 2am on June 2.

Once inside, Sen. Sgt Martin said he woke an eight-year-old girl and started talking to her.

“He has broken into a house and not stolen anything, but has entered a female child’s room, whispered something to her and then touched her arm,” Sen. Sgt Martin said.

She told her parents there was someone in her room, but Sen. Sgt Martin said the child’s mother assumed it had just been a bad dream and sent her back to bed.

“The mother woke up in the morning and the daughter was adamant someone had been in the bedroom overnight,” he said.

“The parents checked the CCTV the next morning and found the offender in the footage and reported to the police the same day.”

The child had not been able to recall what the man told her.

Police had initially been unable to identify Mongoo from the security camera footage, but he was arrested in June after an anonymous tip-off.

Bail was not considered and Mongoo will reappear in court on November 17.
