The Shire of Williams has recruited one new councillor, while two experienced faces continue on following an unopposed election.

The 549 shire voters did not have to go to the polls, with three candidates taking on the vacant roles uncontested in the Wheatbelt shire.

Incumbents John Macnamara and Simon Harding will return to their seats and fresh member Heidi Cowcher will join the chamber.

The successful trio are to hold their seats around the table until October 20, 2029.

The councillors were officially sworn in for the next four years at a council meeting on October 22, where Jarrad Logie was re-elected as shire president, adding another four years to his 16 in the chamber, and Bernie Panizza was selected as deputy.

Former Shire of Williams deputy president Natalie Major retired as a councillor, having been elected in 2009.

The last election in the Shire of Williams that saw more candidates nominating than positions available was in 2023, when eight people stood for seven roles.
