Narrogin Martial Arts School is gearing up for a big year, with students of all ages looking fighting fit five weeks into the first term.

“It’s taken off like a storm,” NMAS owner Daniel McGrath said.

“Every class, there’s been 18 to 20 kids in it ... we get 12 to 14 adults a night and regular students turn up every class.

“They must be enjoying it because they keep coming back.”

McGrath said his students were fit and eager to engage on the mat.

“They’re looking good, coming along really well,” he said.

“They’re just keen, they’re hungry for it.”

McGrath said that competitive meets would be a focus for their school this year

“This year there’s going to be a lot of comps for us, we’re going to start back with the ATI competitions — taekwondo ones — in about May,” he said.

“We’ll focus on taekwondo and kickboxing mostly for competitions, nearly every six weeks I think we’ll have a comp in Perth.

“It’s a big year.”

McGrath said the benefits of training extend beyond the physical.

“Martial arts is great for the community,” he said.

“Teaching it the right way about respect and harmony to the world and to each other, you can’t beat that.”
