Police charge a 24-year-old woman for alleged burglary of $60k in items from Great Southern Kart Club

Wagin police have charged a woman accused of stealing items worth $60,000 from the Great Southern Kart Club, forcing the club to cancel its final junior race of the season. The 24-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday after police executed a search warrant at a residence in Wagin and allegedly located several items belonging to the sporting club. The woman allegedly forced entry into two of club’s sheds, stealing a water truck which had been fitted with pumps, a spray bar and fibreglass tanks along with a ute, quad bike and trailer, new tires on all the vehicles and about 300-400 litres of diesel. The water tank valve had also been opened, with 18,000 litres of water drained. Police believe the burglary occurred between October 4 and October 25. The water truck had been located down Wagin’s main street about 5pm on October 31, shortly after the incident had been reported. Club president Michael Stocks discovered several vehicles and diesel missing from the property after noticing a vacant unknown vehicle parked by the two sheds. Due to the break-in, the club was forced to cancel the Junior 40 Lapper race scheduled for that weekend, meaning 68 junior go-kart racers and attendees travelling from WA and interstate could not race. Police will be further alleging that several personal items were also located in the home that had been reported stolen from a residence on Great Southern Highway in Wagin, believed to have occurred between October 13 and 14. The 24-year-old has been arrested and charged with two counts of possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property. Wagin police confirmed the investigation is still ongoing for both incidents. The woman will appear in Narrogin Magistrates Court on December 2.
