Two wins for Upper Great Southern under-16 team in first three days of junior country week

The Upper Great Southern Cricket Association under-16 B-section side recorded two wins in the opening three days at the annual junior country week tournament in Perth.

Upper Great Southern have two sides to compete in under-14s B-section and under-16s B-section at the week-long competition.

The under-16 side won their two Twenty20 clashes in round two and three on day two against Eastern Goldfields and Bunbury and Districts respectively.

Eastern Goldfields set 6-122 from their 20 overs at Hammer Park as Judd McKenzie took 2-18 and Jonty Robinson snared 2-19.

In reply Upper Great Southern finished on 9-123 in reply winning in a thrilling affair led by 51 from Jack Holt and 37 from Jonty Robinson.

In round three against Bunbury and Districts at RA Cook Reserve, Upper Great Southern successfully defended 135.

Upper Great Southern posted 7-135 batting first as Jonty Robinson blasted 54 and Lucas Robinson added 28.

Bunbury and Districts posted 9-133 in reply from 20 overs with Jonty Robinson snaring 2-14 and Rhys Smith claimed 2-35.

Upper Great Southern met West Pilbara in round four on Wednesday at RA Cook Reserve but went down by 86 runs in their 40-over game.

West Pilbara posted 7-198 with Riley Ford (2-24) and McKenzie (2-36) the multiple wicket takers.

Upper Great Southern lost constant wickets in the run chase and could only manage 8-112 despite Ford making 51.

The under-14 B-section side suffered losses in round two and three on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In round two they went down by 210 runs to Eastern Goldfields at College Park on Tuesday.

Eastern Goldfields psoted 4-266 from 40 overs with Riley Logan making 100 not out while Curtis Hull took 2-16 for Upper Great Southern.

In reply Upper Great Southern were bowled out for 56 as Cameron Sutherland top scored with 34.

In round three at Jubilee Reserve on Wednesday, West Pilbara won by 61 runs.

West Pilbara made 161 batting first with Mitchell Johnstone claiming 3-25 while Alby Stanton snared 2-11 and Chase Parsons took 2-27.

Upper Great Southern showed positive signs in the run chase but were bowled out for 100 with Lucas Whitaker top scoring with 22.

In round one of the under-16 B-section, Upper Great Southern went down to North West by 60 runs at Iluka Sports Complex on Monday.

The under-14 B-section side suffered a thumping 384-run defeat to Broome at RA Cook Reserve in round one on Monday.

North West posted 171 batting first led by a half century from Joseph Gordon, as he shared in a strong opening stand with Michael Brooks to get their side off to a great start.

Gordon was run out for 90 from 135 balls while Thomas Bolt was the only multiple wicket taker for Upper Great Southern with 2-10 off three overs.

In reply, Upper Great Southern were in early trouble at 2-18 but Ford and Jonty Robinson steadied the ship with a 54-run partnership.

Ford was dismissed for 36 off 82 balls and that triggered a collapse as his side lost 8-39 to be bowled out for 111 in the 41st over.

Robinson was impressive with the bat making 41 off 62 balls and Jaemeson Davidson added 15 runs at the end.

Gordon capped off a superb game for North West finishing with 4-9.

In the under-14s B-section, Upper Great Southern were bowled out for 47 batting first.

Riley Oldfield starred with the ball for Broome with 5-9 from four overs.

Lachlan Famlonga then put on a show with the bat as Broome posted a mammoth total of 6-431 off their 50 overs in reply.

Famlonga opened the batting and belted a remarkable 216 not out from 169 balls, hitting 33 fours.

Oldfield and Jed Elson both added 55 each and Lachlan Hearsch made 39 also for Broome.

Stanton (2-30) and Parsons (2-59) were the multiple wicket takers for Upper Great Southern.
