$138m fundsin honour ofreferendum

An extra $138 million is to be spent on Aboriginal and indigenous students.

The 1967 Referendum 50th Anniversary Indigenous Education Package has been announced by the Federal Government, aimed at supporting First Australians through their education to increase opportunities and improve outcomes.

The Government said the announcement honoured the spirit and determination of those who campaigned for the 1967 referendum which amended the Constitution to include Aboriginal people in the census and allow the Commonwealth to create laws for them.

Member for Durack Melissa Price said funding was included for the Clontarf Foundation, with an extra $40 million for the program.

“I have eight Clontarf academies in my electorate operating out of 10 schools, and as a program it is making huge strides in engaging indigenous students and keeping them at school,” she said.

“This funding commitment ensures the continuity of the program, and allows Clontarf to expand into new areas.”
