A week of highly competitive plays between A-grade Pirates and Swans was on display, with Swans taking the first win of the series 8-1, only to have Pirates claim the win the following Saturday 7-4 to even it up.

Both A-grade games exhibited top-tier plays with crucial double plays and outfield catches that had crowds holding their breath.

Game one top batters were Chris Sims for Swans, who brought in two runners from two singles and a double, and Shane John for Pirates with a monster home run in the last inning to score his team’s only run.

Pirates’ Kevin Charles and Swans’ Kyle Edward pitched the entire nine-inning match, each sending seven of the opposition back to the bench.

Game two saw the tables turn as Pirates found their batting rhythm. Pirates’ Brett Della and Bradley Brahim scored two RBIs each, while Swans’ Simon Clegg went three from four with three RBIs from his time at bat.

Pirates again had one pitcher for the nine-inning game in the form of Christian Wise, who struck out 10 Swans. Swans shared the load, starting with Ash Christensen with two strikeouts, followed by Edwards with five.

A-reserves was over in a flash of five innings as Brewers capitalised with the bat. Corey Bowins topped the Brewers’ batting list with three RBIs from a triple and three singles. Pirates’ James Clifford scored the only RBI for his team off a single hit.

The A-grade tiebreaker is on Saturday.
