A man in his 60s was rushed to hospital on Thursday after he became trapped in his truck when it rolled over on Great Northern Highway in Port Hedland. Police alerted rescue crews at 10:00 am that a truck had rolled over on the turn-off from Wilson Street and Great Northern Highway. A DFES spokesperson said local volunteer fire and rescue crews were sent to the incident because the driver was trapped in the vehicle. “The driver was trapped in the truck,” they said, “Two crews from Port Hedland and South Hedland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service arrived a short time after 10:15.” “They worked to free the driver from the truck and had to remove the windscreen to access him. He was removed by 10:40.” St John spokesperson said an ambulance took the man to Hedland Health Campus at 11:03 and that he was not seriously injured. There is no indication yet as to why the truck left the road. A tow truck arrived a short time later to remove the vehicle from the road.
