Alice Springs and Tennant Creek general manager to bring 35 years experience to the Port Hedland airport.

Experienced aviation figure Dave Batic will replace Rod Evans as Port Hedland International Airport’s new head of management when he steps into the new role of chief executive next year. The former Alice Springs and Tennant Creek general manager will bring 35 years of experience to the Pilbara when he commences his role at the beginning of 2022. Mr Batic will replace long-time general manager Rod Evans, who returned to Perth last month after a 30-year stint in the red dirt. “The airport is going through a really positive transformation and plays such a critical role for industry,” Mr Batic said. “It also connects Hedland people to other places and is a gateway for those who want to come and see what the Pilbara has to offer.” The current position will be filled on an interim basis by management. PHIA chairperson Cheryl Edwards said Mr Batic was a “ready-made” replacement for the outgoing manager. “Dave has built a significant depth of knowledge of regional airport operations during senior positions in the Northern Territory and Queensland. He has also been a strong champion for attracting more visitors to regional Australia,” she said. Ms Edwards said the key focus of the airport was to deliver on it’s terminal upgrade to ensure a modern, functional and more welcoming space for locals and tourists.
