Art project reaches final year

Sophia ConstantineNorth West Telegraph

Newman’s Art at the Heart Artist Residency will return next month, bringing three internationally renowed artists to the region.

Shire of East Pilbara chief executive Allen Cooper approved the Art at the Heart project four years ago, recognising that art and cultural opportunities available to people in remote communities were often limited. Since 2014, it has become one of Australia’s richest artist in residence schemes.

This is the final year of the project, which will bring back the three artists — Yasuaki Onishi from Japan, Hannah Quinlivan from Canbe-rra, and Nigerian-born Olaniyi Akindiya.

The artists will work with Melbourne curator Damian Smith to deliver the exhibition, which runs from September 22-October 8 in the EPAC building.
