Artistic variety on display at Odyssea gave Port Hedland a taste of something new and exciting

The inaugural Odyssea - Hedand Music and Arts Journey has come to an end after two weekends of a variety of artistic talent attracted people from across the region. The second weekend of the festival featured the Big Ol Comedy Night with comedians from across Australia, the band 27 Club, and the multicultural Afrotropik beats line-up. Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said the variety of arts and talent at the festival had attracted a crowd from all over. “The Town is proud to have successfully delivered its first Odyssea event, spread over two weekends and providing entertainment for more than 5000 people,” he said. “A particular highlight was the headline event on Saturday, August 19 with King Stingray and support acts attracting a large crowd, including many from out of town. Experience Rova is the events management company that was awarded the tender for the event and their artistic director Alexander Butt said they had wanted to create a new experience for Port Hedland. “We wanted it to feel special and we wanted it to have a sense of adventure,” he said. “We wanted people to try things that might not have experienced like try different art forms or book tickets to see artists they have never heard of before.” The double weekend event ran from August 19 to 27.
