The powerful storytelling qualities and traditions of handmade art will continue to thrive in the Courthouse Gallery+Studio’s latest community exhibition TEND — earth, water, links, exploring the unique local stories of Hedland through craft works. The showcase is the result of three months of artist-led workshops by Jacky Cheng, Sultana Shamshi and Megan Kirwan-Ward, which immersed Port Hedland creatives in crafting, storytelling and skill-sharing. TEND — earth water, links is part of a celebration to mark the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial, which runs during September and October across WA. Workshops targeted culturally and linguistically diverse communities and those living with disability to champion Hedland’s diverse talents. Studio executive officer Katie Evans said the event would be a powerful display of local stories, handmade with heart and informed by some of the finest creatives in the region.
