As the summer of cricket rolls around the Colin Matheson Oval pitch is almost complete

The new cricket pitch at Colin Matheson Oval is almost ready as the season of 35-over matches starts Friday October 15. Reigning champions the Port Hedland Cricket Club, the Wanderers, South Hedland Cricket Club, Mines, Lions and Rovers will all be battling it out this summer. The grand final will be held on February 5 and the season of twenty20 cricket will begin on March 2. Other upgrades to the oval include renovations and floodlight improvements and Cricket Australia and WA cricket contributed financially to the developments. Town of Port Hedland chief executive Carl Askew said upgrades to the cricketing facilities were crucial to the community. “The installation of a cricket pitch and floodlight upgrades will make the area an even better space for families and sporting groups to enjoy,” he said. “The Town believes that investing in Hedland’s sporting infrastructure secures our town’s liveability for the future.”
