Big-stage musical ready to melt hearts

St Cecilia’s Primary School is taking Melted the Musical to the main stage as it prepares to recreate its popular recital for Port Hedland.

After a successful performance for parents last year, the local primary school has joined forces with Matt Dann Cinema and Theatre this year to put the musical in the theatre’s program for 2018 and allow the entire town to enjoy the show.

The cast of the production, which follows in the footsteps of Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Snow Queen, was revealed last week, with new faces joining old hands.

Director, creator and Year 2 teacher Elise Batchelor said while Disney’s Frozen was the initial inspiration, the musical was a Pilbara spin on the original fairytale.

“It’s exciting because it’s going to be a more complex and adventurous show theatrically and with the stage that we’ve been offered as well, it’s going to be last year’s show magnified,” she said.

Ms Batchelor said volunteers were needed to help behind the scenes.
