It was a Saturday afternoon to remember for Zana Bodey as she recorded her first win as a footy coach with the Hedland Blazers, as they defeated the Ashburton Thunder 10.11 (71) to 0.2 (2) at Colin Matheson Oval.

The team from Tom Price travelled to Port Hedland for a one-off match, coinciding with a break in the North Pilbara Football League women’s fixtures.

Jelana Buck debuted for the Blazers and kicked the opening goal early on in the first.

Lashonte Whitby was best afield for the home side and impacted the scoreboard while Jasmin Kilmartin and Anna Bero also impressed.

Bero managed one goal and Heidi Thompson, Alannah Campbell, Nat Whiteside and Synarah Murphy all booted majors for the day.

Tarry Franklin and Caitlin Mincham were the best performers in a losing side for Ashburton.

The Blazers lost to the Thunder away when they faced off last year, so the Hedland team were focused on avenging the loss.

Hedland will travel to face the undefeated Karratha Kats in round 13 of the NPFL on August 7.
