Broome to Singapore route returns with Jetstar Asia

WA’s North West will be reconnected to South East Asia for the first time since the COVID pandemic after Jetstar Asia announced their new Broome to Singapore route. Operating twice weekly from June 25 to October 26 2024, the seasonal route will be operated by Jetstar Asia using an Airbus A320 aircraft and is expected to offer up to 6500 inbound seats to Broome in its first year. The announcement marks the first international route to fly directly into regional WA since the State reopened its borders after the COVID pandemic, and is expected to be one of the most affordable international flights into Australia with fares starting from $125 Singapore Dollars one way. Broome International Airport chief executive Craig Shaw made the announcement at the BIA arrival terminal on Thursday morning, saying it has been a long-held aspiration of the Broome community. “After the success of our international flights in 2018 and 2019, it has been an expectation from the community that this will become a permanent fixture,” he said. “I’m pleased to say that we can now deliver on this community expectation of direct international services.” Australia’s North West Tourism chief executive Bill Tatchell said the announcement was a significant achievement spearheaded by Broome International Airport chief executive Craig Shaw and his team. “This initiative marks a remarkable success in today’s challenging aviation climate,” he said. “It enhances travel accessibility and affordability, eliminating the need for detours via Perth and strengthening Northern Australia’s appeal as a destination rich in natural wonders and cultural experiences. “For a new aviation route to be successful, outbound travel is as important as inbound. Therefore, for Broome’s residents... this route offers a more accessible and affordable way to connect with Asia.” Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said connecting WA’s North West to Singapore’s Changi Airport — a major global hub — would allow visitors from across the world to explore the region. “This Singapore to Broome service presents an incredible opportunity to turbocharge international visitation to our North West, and inject millions into the region’s accommodation, hospitality and tourism businesses,” she said.
