A 21-year-old man is facing a string of charges after allegedly performing burnouts, after drinking, in South Hedland on Saturday night.

CCTV footage released by police shows a Holden Commodore ute being driven along Daylesford Avenue near the intersection of Carr Court.

The driver is shown losing control of the car and crashing into a fence near Koolama Crescent.

Police responded to the incident after receiving a number of calls from concerned residents and arrested a Newman man a short time later.

It is alleged the man was driving with a blood alcohol level in excess of 0.08.

South Hedland Senior Sergeant Dean Snashall said the incident had the potential to cause serious harm.

“He was not in control of the car and it was just luck that prevented the car from causing more damage to the house,” he said.

“People need to understand that with the recent upgrades to the town’s CCTV network there is nowhere to hide.”

The man will appear in court later this month.
