Bushfire advice for people in the vicinity of Mulga Downs has been issued as a fire starts before lunch time today.

The advice has been aimed at travellers after the fire started near the intersection of Great Northern Highway and Munjina Road, 145km south of Port Hedland.

The cause of the fire is unknown, however there is a lot of smoke in the area and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services are managing the situation.

If driving, DFES has advised travellers to turn on headlights and reduce their speed, watch for emergency services personnel and move with extreme caution.

No roads are yet to be closed but motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
