Firefighters are monitoring a bushfire near the intersection of Great Northern Highway and Yandeyarra Road which is moving slowly in a north-westerly direction.

This morning, The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a warning for people travelling along Great Northern Highway and Yandeyarra Road near Kangan station.

The fire started near the intersection of the two roads and is burning away from Great Northern Highway.

DFES advises there is no immediate danger, however, urges residents to stay aware of the fire and keep up to date unless the situation changes.

Those driving are urged to exercise roads with extreme caution, keep headlights on and drive slowly, and watch for emergency services crews to follow their commands.

There are currently no road closures in place, however, motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed, and drive carefully due to smoke.

The fire is believed to have been caused by lightning.
