Authorities have issued a bushfire warning for people travelling along Great Northern Highway near Port Hedland.

The bushfire is moving slowly in a southerly direction in the vicinity of Indee Road and Mount Dove Access Road in Indee.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has advised there is no threat to lives or homes but drivers have been asked to avoid the area or drive carefully due to a lot of smoke.

Motorists are being told to drive carefully through the affected areas, turn headlights on, and correspond with emergency services personnel.

The wind is expected to change from a northerly to a westerly this evening.

No roads have yet been closed, however, motorists are asked to avoid the area and reduce speed.
