It was another successful competition for Sang-Rock Hedland Judo Club after competing in the 2018 Judo WA State Championships.

The Hedland-based club sent 17 competitors to Perth last month and brought home 12 medals.

The club boasts two new gold medallists, four silver medallists and six bronze medallists, with five-year-old Luke Welbeloved its youngest podium achiever.

Sang-Rok committee member Jodie Bennett said the competitors, aged between five and mid-40s, had been going through a gruelling training regime to prepare for the event.

“A lot of our competitors, including the juniors, had been training four to five days a week since January so that they could be as competitive as possible,” she said.

The club also came out of the State competition with 12 members selected to represent WA at the 2018 National Judo Championships on the Gold Coast next month.

“We won 12 medals at last year’s national competition, so we’re hoping to do that well again, especially in the masters division,” Ms Bennett said.

The club is focusing on ensuring members are competitive on the national stage and fundraising to support families to travel to the event. To get involved in judo, call 0477 641 622 or visit the Sang-Rock Hedland Judo Club Facebook page.
