Community directory launched

Robert DoughertyNorth West Telegraph

Hedland community groups gathered for an organisation breakfast and the launch of a community directory last week.

The directory was unveiled by Regional Development Australia Pilbara, WA Primary Health Alliance and the Town of Port Hedland, held at the Esplanade Hotel last Wednesday, March 28.

It includes details of community groups, charities, government departments, Aboriginal organisations, sports clubs, as well as schools and facilities.

Guest speaker Peter Kenyon discussed how to stimulate community and economic renewal in Hedland, and focused on development driven from within resident groups rather than by external agencies. Mayor Camilo Blanco said the collaborative effort was an essential resource for region.

“This directory will be a key resource for the Town, providing a clear and accessible contact list of diverse organisations which offer a range of vital services,” he said. “It also promotes what Port Hedland has to offer to other townships and localities across the Pilbara.”

Resident have access to the directory at South and Port Hedland libraries, the JD Hardie Youth Zone and the Town of Port Hedland Civic Centre or find a copy on the Town’s website.
