After a less-than-ideal showing at nationals, the Pilbara ATV team has nabbed a couple of podium finishes at the Northern Territory Titles despite the group suffering multiple injuries. On Saturday, September 16, three members of the Pilbara Quad Racers received medals at the Territory Titles for finishing in the top three of their individual races. Port Hedland racer Sid Torney finished third in the master’s division, Anthony Ytting came second in the veterans race, and Lachlan Ytting finished third in the 25 hybrid. While it was a great outcome for the Pilbara crew, team promoter Charli Delaney said the results came off the back of a very rough nationals tournament the week before. “Last weekend was a pretty rough show,” she said. “The Pilbara crew are going home with a couple of podiums and a few broken bones.” The national championship took place on September 9 and 10 and was also held in Darwin. Ms Delaney said despite not getting a podium finish at the nationals, the trip was ultimately a success for the group. “The whole trip overall was worthwhile,” she said “Everyone was helping each other with their bikes and helping fix their issues so it was a good trip for the team.” While a couple of the younger racers had broken bones from the national tournament, Ms Delany said everyone was “in good spirits” and looking forward to hitting the road to make the 2400km trip home.
