It was a huge day at the Port Hedland Turf Club on Sunday for trainer Darryn Pateman and jockey Jessica Gray as they took home first prize in three races and finished second in another two. Gray started the day strong as she won the first race on Sunday At Six by four lengths from Kalalkua and Top Pocket. Trainer Tom Pike had Colin Haddon on Playing Zeus in race two and they beat Thaad and Rose Thief , winning comfortably by seven lengths. The race of the round was the 1200m class one handicap as Gray took first place in a nailbiting finish. Gray and trainer Pateman’s Swanky Lass edged out Northern Chill and Pike’s Femme Puissante by a half a length in one of their three victories of the day. Trainers Pateman and Pike battled it out again in race four as Gray finished in first place again on Shackleton over Chris Nicoll on Culzean by 11/2 lengths. Nine-year-old Sixpence Spent finished first in Port Hedland’s penultimate Sunday race by 11/2 lengths over Time and Truth, and Ship Creek. It was a close finish to end the day as trainer Brian Roger’s Galiba got up over Pateman’s runner In The Bag by a narrow margin in the final race. Rogers took third place as jockey Andrew Castle placed on Paty’s Forcast. The next event on the Pilbara racing calendar is the City of Karratha Ladies Day at Roebourne Races on Saturday, June 19.
