Dragons dominate
Despite a slow beginning to the night, round 5 of the Hedland Water Polo Association was a night of nailbiters for the water sport.
The night started off with Dragons burning down the Blackstars in an 11-5 win.
Despite Dragons’ Noel Morrison dominating the scoreboard as he took four goals for the team, Blackstars’ rising star Blake Cirulis managed to hold his own and put a goal on the team’s scorecard.
Morrison was best player for the night with three votes, followed by Matthew Weeks and Liam Chittleborough.
The first women’s game of the night saw a grand final rematch between Aztecs and Piranhas ending in a 9-all draw.
Aztecs made a dramatic comeback in the final quarter scoring three goals to Piranhas’ one thanks to rising star Tess Mellberg.
Erin Brierly and Lamia Cooper were voted the best players of the game.
The second men’s game saw White Pointers drown the composite team yet again ending 7-6.
Despite Noel Morrison bringing in the big scores again, shooting three goals for the composite team followed by Brad Horseman’s three goals, White Pointers managed to stay on top with two goals in the final quarter.
Orcas proved too strong for the young Vipers, winning 9-6 in the final game of the night. Despite the loss, Vipers sibling duo Kade and Mackayla Denney showed a great effort and developed skills with Kade scoring two goals.
