Police are investigating a fatal head-on crash that occurred in South Hedland last night.

A 38 year-old female was driving a 200 series Toyota Landcruiser north along Wallwork Road when it collided with a silver Holden Berlina that was travelling south on the same road.

The 55-year-old driver of the Berlina received serious injuries and was taken to hospital, while the passenger in the same vehicle, a woman in her 50’s, died at the scene.

The driver of the Landcruiser was taken to South Hedland Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are asking anyone who saw the crash, or the Toyota Landcruiser or Holden Berlina travelling in the area before the crash, or anyone who was in the vicinity around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage to come forward.

Motorists in the area are advised that there will be traffic delays northbound on Wallwork Road near Pinga Street and if possible, to avoid the area.

Police are asking anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
