A caravan behind the Walkabout Hotel in Port Hedland was completely burnt down after catching on fire this morning.

The blaze was first reported to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services at 9.35am.

A DFES spokesperson said aviation crews from the Port Hedland Airport reached the scene first and had the blaze under control by the time Port and South Hedland fire crews arrived.

There was nobody inside the caravan at the time, as the vehicle was mainly used as a storage space by the owner.

Police and an ambulance were also at the scene as precautions.

Firefighters managed to keep the fire from spreading to other caravans and motel rooms in close proximity.

Police said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
