Fire burns through Martu Martu community

A bushfire alert has been issued for the Marta Marta Community and surrounding areas after a suspiciously-lit blaze was spotted moving east of Port Hedland.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services released information at 10.20am of a fire burning six kilometres north of the Great Northern Highway, near Marble Bar Road.

DFES advises firefighters are attending however there is no threat to lives or homes however there is large amount of smoke in the area and residents need to be aware as the situation changes.

Residents are warned to drive extremely carefully with headlights on and to watch for emergency services personnel – no roads have been closed.
