Fortescue family fun

Newman is gearing up for one of its biggest calendar events when Capricorn Oval comes alive with excitement for the Fortescue Festival on August 20.
Run by Newman Lions Club, the Fortescue Festival has been a community favourite event for more than 40 years and attracts thousands of punters each year.
This year, there will be fun for all ages with rides and amusements, a petting farm, live entertainment and demonstrations from local community groups, food and drinks and music.
Fortescue Festival is a family-friendly alcohol-free event, which will end with a bang at the fireworks display at 8pm.
All money raised at the Fortescue Festival goes to Newman Lions Club, which works to support and help its community by lending a helping hand and donating tens of thousands of dollars to local groups, organisations and schools each year. Newman Lions Club president Anthony Middleton said 100 per cent of the money raised at the festival would go straight back into the community.
“The festival brings everyone in the community together and it’s an event that kids from the city are accustomed to but don’t get to enjoy here very often,” he said.
The annual Fortescue Festival Ball was cancelled for 2017 because of low tickets sales so Mr Middleton encourages people to come along and support the festival so the club can deliver a stellar event in 2018.
