Growth of the Pink Pilbara Breakfast allows the Hedland Well Womens Centre to expand its services

“The biggest fundraiser” in Port Hedland keeps getting bigger as the Pink Pilbara Breakfast allows the Hedland Well Women’s Centre to expand its support services. The annual fundraiser was held at the Esplanade Hotel on Friday and more than 250 people donned pink to be there. For 16 years the HWWC has hosted the fundraiser to provide support for cancer and the organisation’s chair Chantel Cullen said the event has attracted more people each year. “It’s grown massively, this event is 250 seats and it sells out in a couple of days,” she said. “I remember going to one a few years ago and it was a couple of strip seats — and it was beautiful — but I think the first one might have raised $8000 and we are on track for $100,000 this year. “So it’s absolutely incredible.” The Hedland Well Women’s Centre provides health promotion, prevention, clinical and support services to women in the Port Hedland area. Ms Cullen said the increased support meant the HWWC was able to expand the services it offered. “The funds used to be raised and given to an external organisation to support cancer, whether it went to Pink Ribbon or Reach Us, but a few years ago we decided we had the capacity and the love to deliver cancer support services internally.,” she said. “Because this event is such a success thanks to the community and sponsors we are able to diversify and use some of the funding for our life-saving screenings. “It will go towards our clinical services as well as expand our cancer support services.” Last year the Pink Pilbara Breakfast raised more than $90,000.
