Helpers sought for clean-up
Locals are being called to pitch in and help Keep Australia Beautiful through Care For Hedland.
The environmental association is encouraging Hedland to join in the Adopt-A-Spot clean up campaign on August 26 as part of KAB’s WA activities.
Each year Keep Australia Beautiful Week, which runs from August 20- 27, has a different theme, and this year there will be a focus on takeaway litter and waste, targeting packaging and containers from takeaway outlets including plastic cups and straws, takeaway containers and plastic bags.
Care for Hedland co-ordinator Jo Smith said the event would be on the Port-South Road near the overpass and the turn-off for Wedgefield and the airport.
“All are welcome to attend,” she said. “Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate shoes, hat and sunscreen.
“High-vis safety vests, gloves and water will be supplied.”
Care For Hedland’s Adopt-A-Spot program happens on the third and fourth Saturday of every month from 7am-8.30am.
Clean-ups on the third Saturday of the month are along Hamilton Road, whereas on the fourth Saturday of each month, volunteers will be on the Port-South road.
