Karratha Kats secure top of ladder position with 88-point win

It was an action-packed round of NPFL at the weekend with the Karratha Kats securing their position at the top of the ladder with an 88-point win. The Karratha Falcons struggled to get in the game during the first half kicking only one goal to the Kats’ 13. After the half-time break the Falcons managed to get a few goals up on the scoreboard but by that time the Kats had well and truly ran away with the match with forward Daniel Farmer kicking five goals to help secure the win, 18.16 (124) to 4.12 (36). Then in Hedland it was a derby rematch with the South Hedland Swans proving themselves as the better Hedland team against the Port Hedland Rovers after a 56-point win. The Rovers remained within striking distance of the Swans after the first term but then started to fall away kicking only one goal in the second term as the Falcons kicked another four. Port Hedland kept pace with the Swans in the third but then failed to make a score during the final term leading to their defeat, 13.18 (96) to 6.4 (40). The top-of-the-ladder team, the Dampier Sharks, earned themselves another massive 81-point win, this time against the Wickham Wolves. The Wolves fought hard and kept themselves within striking distance of the Sharks for the first term before Dampier took full control of the ground kicking five goals to the Wolves’ one in the second quarter. The Sharks then hit their stride in the second half racking up nine goals to the Wolves’ two, securing themselves a dominant win, 19.12 (126) to 6.9 (45). In the women’s league, the Karratha Kats also defeated the Karratha Falcons in a dominant showing. The Kats took control of the ground right from the get-go, scoring six goal while the Falcons only managed to score one before the end of the first term. The Falcons failed to make another goal for the entire match while the Kats went on to collect another four goals to take home the win, 8.3 (51) to 1.2 (8). Then the Hedland Blazers clinched the win in a low-scoring game against the Port Hedland Rovers. The Rovers failed to make a score until the third term when Alyssa Kelly kicked the Rovers’ only goal for the match. Meanwhile, the Blazers also struggled to make their shots at goal count, but thanks to the amount of opportunities the Blazers managed to take home the win by four points, 1.4 (10) to 1.0 (6). The Dampier Sharks also claimed a solid win against the Wickham Wolves in another low-scoring clash. The Wolves failed to get on the board until the second term kicking one goal and two behinds while the Sharks had already established a three-goal lead. The Wolves went on to kick another in the third term but it was nowhere near enough to catch up to the Sharks, going down 2.6 (18) to 7.4 (46).
