Local paramedics and volunteers will open their doors to the public next weekend

Hedland’s St John WA depot will be hosting an open day on Sunday October 10, giving the public a chance to meet and greet paramedics and enjoy a sausage sizzle, bouncy castle and a look inside an ambulance. St John Hedland station manager Anna Haliburton said the open day was an opportunity to give the public a chance to meet paramedics in a casual setting and learn about the depot. “Our hope is always to gain more volunteers, we live in a very transient community so we lose a lot of volunteers quickly but gain a lot of volunteers quickly,” she said. “It’s also a chance for our current volunteers families to walk through the depot and let their partners see what they do when they work with us. “People don’t really know about us unless they use the ambulance service but this allows us to open our doors to anybody. If you had ever had an interest in what we do, or wanted to see what an ambulance is like, this is an opportunity to see that.” Ms Haliburton said the open day would allow community members to see ambulance staff and volunteers outside of “times of stress”.
