Man charged over South Hedland house fire
An 18 year old man has been charged in relation to a house fire in South Hedland which left an eight year old boy in hospital.
Around 1:30am on Friday, March 27 Police attended a house fire on Godrick Place, South Hedland, where upon their arrival it was established one child was not accounted for.
The officers checked the residence and could see the child laying on the floor inside, not moving, and subsequently forced entrance and removed the child from the property.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
Arson squad detectives were flown from Perth to South Hedland to examine the scene.
The 18 year old man was charged with criminal damage by fire and act or omission causing bodily harm or danger.
He was refused bail and will face Perth Magistrates Court via videolink today.
The injured child remains in hospital, however his condition has improved.
