Middleton to serve on as president as new Shire of East Pilbara deputy elected

Anthony Middleton will serve his first full term as Shire of East Pilbara after gaining endorsement for the role last Friday. Cr Middleton signalled his intention to run for the position after the October local government election having first been propelled into the top job this year following the retirement of Lynne Craigie. At last Friday’s council meeting Cr Middleton was re-elected president and Wendy McWhirter-Brooks placed into the deputy president role. “We have a broad range of Local Government and life experience on the council, which I am sure will bring a great energy as we work as a team,” Mr Middleton said. “I would also like to extend my congratulations to Cr McWhirter-Brooks for her election as deputy president. “I look forward to working closer on the matters that are important to our community.” Cr Middleton has served on the council for four years, while Cr McWhirter-Brooks was first elected in February this year following the retirement of Dean Hatwell. Cr McWhirter-Brooks said the Shire was on the cusp of an exciting period of growth.
