The common dip in enthusiasm after January has hit the Hedland Sporting Shooters, with only four competitors turning up on Sunday for the pistol competition.

The absence of constant winners at the club created a chance for new names to take their place at the top of the scorecard.

In rimfire pistol, Jemal Blattner took first place with seven points, Daniel McDonald was second with six, and Jamie Thornton followed up on five.

In centrefire pistol, Peter Nicholls won with 10, and second was a tie at seven points between Dianne Nicholls and Graeme Hunter.

Earlier on Friday the range hosted a freeform pistol event called “prac pistol” in which a course was set up for people to shoot and reload while moving through it.
