An East Pilbara mining town will turn pink this May when a fun run unlike any other returns to the region to raise money for national breast cancer research.

The Mother’s Day Classic will return to the Pilbara on May 8, after Newman was announced as one of the locations hosting an event.

More than 1.5 million people have participated in the event nationally over the past 24 years, making it Australia’s largest annual charity fun run and walk.

Mother’s Day Classic chief executive Zara Lawless said the Mother’s Day Classic was ready to deliver a fun and inspiring event experience in a COVID-safe manner.

“It’s great to be welcoming back our traditional MDC event experiences and celebrating 25 years of impact with communities right across the nation,” she said.

“We cannot wait to see everyone in their pink attire and communities coming together on Mother’s Day to connect and raise awareness for the cause.”

Runs were held in both Port Hedland and Newman last year, however, the Town of Port Hedland has confirmed their event will not go ahead this year because of COVID.
