No vaccines in the Pilbara as phase 1b of national roll-out begins

No doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine have made their way to the Pilbara for phase 1b of the roll-out due to a lack of orders, says the Federal Health Department. Phase 1b of the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out was due to commence on Monday with Indigenous people over 55 in line to get the jab. The Federal government is working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations on the roll-out to ensure everyone gets a vaccine. But a Health Department spokesperson said the government had not received any orders from ACCHOs in the Pilbara. “ACCHOs are starting their role out from next week and they will determine when to place their orders and delivery of the vaccines,” the spokesperson said. “They manage their local community health needs and will ensure co-ordination of the vaccine for their patients. “We understand the Pilbara will be placing its order soon and the Department will ensure their delivery when they require it.” The spokesperson said the government expects a high vaccination rate among the Indigenous population. “To encourage vaccine uptake, the public information campaign advertising materials have been, and continue to be adapted for Indigenous audiences, with key audio materials translated into 15 Indigenous languages,” the spokesperson said. “Indigenous channels are being utilised including TV, radio, social and print.” For more information on the vaccine roll-out click here.
