Nominate a sporting legend at 2025 Hedland Community Sports Awards
Local sporting champions — from rising stars to unsung volunteers — are set to take centre stage, with nominations now open for the 2025 Town of Port Hedland and BHP Community Sports Awards.
Celebrating excellence across all levels of sport, the annual awards recognise the individuals and groups who not only compete, coach and officiate but those who help shape sport into a cornerstone of community life.
Now in its latest edition, the event honours those who go above and beyond to make sport a driving force for health, connection and community spirit.
From grassroots initiatives to competitive excellence, local sporting activities foster inclusivity, encourage healthy lifestyles and create opportunities for residents of all ages to connect.
Categories include junior sportsman of the year, junior sportswoman of the year, sports person of the year, coach of the year, umpire/official of the year, volunteer of the year, service to sportand sporting group of the year.
Town of Port Hedland events, arts and culture manager Khristle Barr said the awards honoured the exceptional achievements of individuals and teams shaping Hedland’s thriving sports scene.
“From young athletes to tireless volunteers, our champions show what it means to build a stronger, healthier Hedland,” she said.
Winners will be announced at a dedicated awards ceremony, with individual category recipients receiving $1000 and the sporting group of the year awarded $2000.
BHP lead principal community Patrik Mellberg said sport was about more than just competition and games.
“It’s a powerful connector that brings people together, fosters belonging and helps communities thrive,” he said.
“We’re excited to get behind the 2025 Community Sports Awards and recognise those who have made a real impact.”
