Nominations close for the 2021 Town of Port Hedland local election
A list of candidates throwing their hats into the ring for this years Town of Port Hedland council election has been officially confirmed as the local race continues to heat up.
A total of six mayoral candidates and 15 councillor hopeful will contest seats on council following a unique election last year.
Mayoral candidates who will set out to contest incumbent Peter Carter include well know identities Gloria Jacob and Camilo Blanco as well as newcomer Kate Norwell, George Deccache and Lorraine Butson.
Councillors Tim Turner, Lewis Kew Ming (China), Eva Bartho and Kylie Unkovich have voiced their desire to keep their current positions.
They will be challenged by Tekohi Rivera, Eva Bartho, Flo Bennett, David Eckhart, Louise Newberry, Ash Christiansen, George Pitt, Lincoln Tavo, Andy Barrow and Gary Silcock.
Deccach and Butson will also throw their hats in for a position on council.
Incumbent Cr Carter said it was good to see the local contest heat up and was confident his progression of key projects would help in this years election campaign.
“It’s going to be interesting to see what happens and to see it all unfold,” he said.
The election will be held via postal ballot, with the count being held on October 16 at the Port Hedland Civic Centre.
