Hedland residents are being encouraged to get their dogs vaccinated with Mayor Camilo Blanco reminding pet owners of the dangers of parvovirus.

Mr Blanco said dog owners were reminded the highly contagious virus could be life-threatening to adult dogs and puppies, and should take necessary precautions to prevent its spread.

“This virus can cause great distress to infected dogs, including lethargy, severe vomiting, loss of appetite and diarrhoea,” he said.

“A key preventative measure is the parvo vaccine, which is included in the routine puppy vaccinations.”
