Pilbara community to commemorate 109th anniversary of Anzac Day

The Pilbara is gearing up to commemorate Anzac Day to mark the 109th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing on Thursday, April 25. The community will come together at the War Memorial across from the Esplanade Hotel in Port Hedland at 5:30 am, with the commemoration beginning at 5:40am. The ceremony will feature a moment of silence to remember the fallen, broken only by the poignant notes of the Last Post at 6am. This will precede the laying of wreaths, a parade and a salute in honour of the fallen. At 9:30am, Anzac House on Hedditch Street will welcome guests for a barbecue lunch prepared by the Girl Guides. Additionally, those in Port have the opportunity to engage in a traditional game of two-up at the Pier Hotel. The Newman RSL will conduct an Anzac Day commemorative service starting at 5:35am at the BHP Housing Office car park, with a march to the cenotaph commencing at 5:45am. Local RSLs in Karratha and Roebourne will also host a dawn service for their respective communities.
