Pilbara residents have been warned by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to make a bushfire plan to protect their homes and properties ahead of the summer season. DFES launched its annual summer campaign on November 13 with the Department expecting an earlier start to bushfire season this year. The campaign directs people to the My Bushfire Plan app and website, which are simple tools the community can use to create their plan. It comes as DFES released statistics on fires from the previous season, which ran from December 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022 with more than 1751 bushfires reported across WA. Meanwhile, the data revealed 173 were recorded, burning a total of 645,345ha. Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson said over the past year, emergency services have faced incredible challenges to protect local communities. “We know the single biggest killer when it comes to bushfires is indecision, so we urge people to make their own bushfire plan, or update it, to keep their family and property safe,” he said.
