Pilbara’s go kart champions compete at Hedland Kart Club for Northern Zone final

The Northern Zone go kart series final was held at the Port Hedland Kart Club on Saturday as drivers from across the Pilbara competed in the final event of the karting calendar. Karratha’s drivers took out the top three positions in the pro-cadets race as William Campbell finished first ahead of Coby Hemmett and Louis Gray. Campbell concluded the season on 7254 points while Hemmett managed 5354. In the WA combined light division, Karratha’s Connor Grey was crowned champion and Exmouth’s Aiden Passmore and Karratha’s Tyler Smith came in second and third. Passmore achieved 7062 points and Smith’s season total amounted to 5696. Passmore snatched a second victory in the tag 125 combined division with 7515 points over Karratha’s Tyler Smith on 5687 and Chris Smith. Karratha’s Connor Grey took out the combined medium competition as fellow club member Michael Riley Smith came behind in second, ahead of Bradley Roe In the combined heavy races, home town hero Nicola McDougall took out first prize to beat out Hedland’s Glenn McDougall and Karratha’s James Corea. Exmouth Kart Club celebrated as Riley Watkins won the KA3 junior competition on 7339 points ahead of Karratha’s Annabel Bishop on 4678 and Trent Ellis on 2026. Exmouth Kart Club president Adam Watkins said he was proud of the club’s efforts in Hedland and ecstatic with the victories. “We may be a small club but together we can be mighty and achieve great things,” they said. “We also won the Northern Zone Rosebowl and now hold both this and the State Championship Rosebowl. “This is only possible with all the support from our sponsors and volunteers who do lots behind the scenes.”
