Police offer up to $25,000 for information on suspected South Hedland arsonist

Police are offering up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the identification and conviction of a suspected arsonist that allegedly lit a number of fires near South Hedland on the weekend. On Saturday, April 15 emergency services were called to respond to a number of fires along the Great Northern Highway in the Pippingarra area with police alleging the fires were lit deliberately sometime between 11:30am and 12:30pm. Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and battled the fires until late on Sunday, causing extensive damage to a large area of bushland. South Hedland detectives are urging anyone with dashcam footage from the Great Northern Highway near the Pippingarra Area between 11:30am and 2pm on April 15 to contact police. Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist with detectives confirming they have already spoken to one potential witness. The police investigation is ongoing and any witnesses with information are urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
