Port Hedland Netball Association’s Stacey Jansen is confident her team can mix it with the fancied Karratha and Broome sides at this weekend’s North West Netball Regional Championships. The tournament starts on Friday at the Karratha Leisureplex, where teams from Tom Price, Broome, Karratha, Newman and Hedland will compete in the region’s biggest netball tournament. Port Hedland will send three senior teams, comprising open division one, open division two, and masters. Three junior teams will also battle it out, split into 16-and-under, 14-and-under and 12-and-under. All squads have been training twice a week for six weeks. Hedland senior open division one co-captain Lilia Daniel said she expected the tournament to be competitive. “The pressure is on this year ... there is no room to have a loss,” she said. “We have to be really strong in all of our games to make it to the final.” Co-captain Jansen said she was confident Port Hedland could beat the favourites. “Broome and Karratha are the teams to beat and I think that this team, this year, can do it,” Jansen said. “Our coach, Renae Tucker, has done a great job.” Selectors will be at the tournament to watch juniors with potential for Perth’s development squads.
