Port Hedland rallies around mother-daughter duo as they shave for Cancer Foundation
A Port Hedland mother and daughter have raised more than $5000 for the Cancer Foundation after shaving their heads in a heartfelt tribute to family members affected by cancer.
Tiffany Watson and her daughter Willow held the fundraising event at Discovery Parks on August 30, drawing support from the local community.
The initiative was sparked by the diagnosis of Tiffany’s mother with lymphoma and her father’s battle with skin cancer.
“My mother has just been diagnosed with lymphoma and my dad actually has skin cancer too, so it hit home a bit,” Tiffany said.
“Everyone has been touched by it.”
The event featured a community barbecue, with meat donated by Pilbara business Outback Beef.
Attendees gathered to show support and contribute to the Watson’s cause, helping the pair surpass their initial $5000 fundraising goal by raising $5200.
Tiffany, who had worn dreadlocks for seven years and Willow with shoulder-length red hair, said the shave was a bit of shock.
“I couldn’t be with my mum, so this was the only way I could be there for her,” she said.
The Watsons expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the Port Hedland community.
