Radio host samples life in wheelchair

In an effort to raise awareness and funds for wheelchair-bound Australians, Hedland’s favourite radio host spent 24 hours in a wheelchair.

Spirit Radio’s David “Ecky” Eckhart spent 24 hours in a wheelchair last week in an effort to raise money for Rebound WA and experience the reality of being wheelchair bound in South Hedland.

“I’m doing this to get a perspective of what it’s like to be down this low on a daily basis and accessibility issues more than anything,” he said. “No being able to get up and walk to the office coffee machine has been an eye opener.”

Rebound WA is a not-for-profit organisation assisting West Australians living with physical disability to lead fuller, more active and connected lives.

“Rebound WA look after anyone with a disability — if you are a person with a disability, Rebound WA can find things for you to do in a social aspect, professional aspect and even sporting aspect,” Eckhart said.

At the time of print, Eckhart had raised $400 towards the charity. For more information on Rebound WA and to donate, visit reboundwa.com.
