Rates debts on the agenda

Taylar AmoniniNorth West Telegraph

The Town of Port Hedland may soon take in ratepayers’ financial hardships when paying rates and services as it sets out to amend its debt management policy.

At tonight’s ordinary council meeting, councillors will decide whether the town will take into consideration “genuine financial difficulties” of ratepayers when paying rates and charges and provide repayment arrangements.

If approved, the amendment will enable a ratepayer to make application to the council for assistance relating to debts owed to the Town.
