The highly anticipated 2023 Newman Triathlon, presented by Act-Belong-Commit, is fast approaching and the community is being invited to participate in multiple ways. The Newman Triathlon is a premier event in the Shire of East Pilbara and offers something for fitness fans of all abilities, with courses for individuals as young as seven. Starting and ending at the Newman Aquatic Centre, the event offers participants a unique look at the Newman CBD, a barbecue breakfast and prizes. Shire president Anthony Middleton said he was thrilled to see the event return to Newman streets on April 2. “It’s always inspiring to see the determination and teamwork displayed by participants, whether they’re entered individually or as part of a team,” he said. Middleton also emphasised that while participating in a triathlon was not suited for everyone, the shire welcomed anyone to volunteer on the day, including as lap recorders, marshals and water station attendants. “I’d like to thank our presenting partner, Act-Belong-Commit, as well as all of our sponsors for making the 2023 Newman Triathlon the best it can be,” he said. Registration and volunteering information can be found on the Newman Triathlon website or by following the event on Facebook. Registrations close on the day of the event. The Triathlon offers three courses, including the full course, short course and junior course. The full course begins at 6am with a briefing at 5.45 am and is open to ages 14 and up, covering a 600m swim, 18km bike and 8km run. The short course, which starts at 7am with a briefing at 6.45am, is open to ages 10 and up and covers a 200m swim, 1km bike and 6km run. Finally, the junior course begins at 8am with a briefing at 7.45am and is open to ages 7-10 covering a 100m swim, 2km bike, and 1km run. Participants can register as individuals or as part of a team.
